On this 4th Sunday of Advent, we continue our journey towards Jesus through Mary. After Jesus, we look to Mary as an ideal steward. Her entire life was lived in obedience to God’s call. Mary teaches us to live with joy for all we have been given. Just as the moon reflects the light of the sun, Mary reflects the light of Christ. Like Mary, we are called to reflect Christ’s light to the world through our gratitude and generosity.
I wanted to thank everyone who participated again in our Commitment Sunday weekend back on December 2 & 3. We received over 200+ cards where you all renewed and reviewed your commitment to our parish. We want to celebrate this, and we value your commitment. Many of you also participated in this year’s St. Vincent de Paul’s food & toy drive. We wanted to follow up earlier but with the current changes we’ll continue in the new year. We’ll mobilize a team to follow up with everyone who signed a card. Our goal continues to be vision driven, and mission centered. As I shared at our St. Finnan’s Christmas Concert, “I Have A Dream”. Please pray for your Parish Pastoral and Finance Council as we prepare to meet in January.
I also wanted to thank everyone who participate in our poll for changes to our Sunday Mass times. we currently have 136 votes, almost 35% of our parishioners, and the majority are asking for a change to all our Masses on Sunday.
- 56 votes, requesting Sunday Mass at the Basilica, for 8am & 10am
- 33 votes, requesting Sunday Mass at the Basilica, for 8am & 10:30am
- 15 votes, requesting only one Sunday Mass at the Basilica, for 10am
- 56 votes, requesting Sunday Mass 9am at St. James church, Maxville, and 10:30am at St. Anthony’s church in Apple Hill
- finally, 25 votes, requesting a “Last Chance Sunday Mass” at the Basilica
Again, thank you to all who participated on our poll about Mass times. A strong majority have suggested changes to our existing Sunday schedule. Our Parish Pastoral Council will discuss the results at our next meeting in January. More details to follow near the end of January on details as to when this will affect our St. Finnan’s Parish. Please continue to pray for the leaders of the Parish Pastoral & Finance Councils. Peace.
