Nota Bene: October 28, 2023

This weekend Archbishop Damphousse will preside the last Mass at
St. Catherine of Sienna in Greenfield. I acknowledge it has been a difficult journey for many. Let’s continue to pray for our parishioners. As I mentioned last week, developing our plan on the parish renewal journey, structural changes, and church closures has not been without challenges, but our councils and committee have worked very hard to balance the realities we face with the desire to strengthen our community and parish family. We honour those who came before us and want to ensure a Catholic presence in our region well into the future. Our churches are beautiful, and we have strong attachments to them. Again, I cannot emphasize strongly enough that although our structures may change, the mission Christ gave us to go forth and make disciples remains. This sounds beautiful but we all know it requires a great deal of sacrifice, generosity and willingness to walk through challenges with the faith that Christ accompanies us. Today’s readings are all about love – the radical love of God for His people and the radical love we are called to live out in response. The stewardship way of life is nothing more and nothing less than the practical application of loving God and neighbor in our daily lives. Love God first and love neighbour as self. This is the heart of the stewardship way of life – simple enough for a child to understand, challenging enough to be the life’s work of every “grown-up”.

The Akwesasne Kateri Prayer Circle has received a grant for a four-part Akwesasron on Healing and Reconciliation Project. The initiative will include teaching the Kanienkeha (Mohawk) Language through hymns and song, leading to an Akwesasronon youth choir.
