FROM OUR PASTOR

Happy birthday to the Church, on this Pentecost Sunday. To receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit you must open your heart and invite Him in! Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts, words and actions every day! Be grateful for all the gifts God has given you! Regardless of our individual circumstances, God has given all of us many blessings. What we do with those gifts is our gift back to God! By generously sharing everything we have and everything we are, we become more “God-centered” and less “self-centered” and our lives truly reflect God’s light, love and mercy.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

I write to you today with great hope for our four parish communities. Our Parish Renewal Committee members’ mandate is to advance the mission of our parish family. Please read the announcement made last weekend and click here for more Frequently Asked Questions. Let us continue praying for each other.

DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR FIRST COMMUNION?

Last weekend, second grade students in our parish received the sacrament of Eucharist for the first time.
On our First Communion weekend, we spoke about how the children had been carefully instructed on how to properly receive communion either on the tongue or in the hand. When receiving on the hand we make a throne for Jesus our King. This practice dates back to around 400 AD, when St Cyril instructed his people: “Holy Communion is to be received standing, though individual members of the faithful may choose to receive Communion while kneeling. When standing before the minister to receive Holy Communion, the faithful should make a simple bow of the head. When receiving Holy Communion on the tongue, they reverently join their hands; when receiving Holy Communion in the hand, they reverently open their hands placing one beneath the other, and they consume the host immediately upon receiving it (GIRM, n. 160). All should respond “Amen” before they receive communion.” Congratulations again to Emelia, Ellecia, Dougald, Calla, and Myriam.
