PARISH VISION

To rekindle the Catholic faith in Glengarry, proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, and build the Kingdom of God.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Our readings today remind us that, even in our weakest and toughest moments, God has a plan. Today, recall that God loves us more than we could ever imagine. There is not a moment that goes by that He does not have us in mind. He has a specific plan for our lives. Therefore, may we encounter life’s challenges with confidence in Christ. For more information on God’s plan for our parish, including Fr. Jon’s new roommate, please see the website for more details.
“Lift Up Your Hearts.” The actions and gestures of the Mass are deeply meaningful, and the more we understand them, the more we will connect with what God is doing through the Mass. As we continue our year of discernment it is exciting to see St. Finnan’s Parish continue to grow. Please see more details on a new accessibility project for our Basilica, with an upcoming presentation in September.

May we be generous and considerate, not thinking only about ourselves, but helping others enjoy the blessings of summertime. DID YOU KNOW THIS ABOUT OUR LITURGY?

Liturgical Ministry: What’s the role of Extraordinary Ministers of Communion? The “ordinary” and primary ministers of Holy Communion are those who are ordained – Bishops, Priests and the Deacons who minister the chalice. “Extraordinary” ministers of Holy Communion are lay persons who have been instituted as acolytes or duly commissioned as ministers of Communion. When needed, they assist the ordinary ministers in giving the Body and Blood of Christ to the family of God. In doing so, they act in the name of Jesus and follow the example of service that he gave at the Last Supper.  All ministers who are to assist the Priest and Deacon as ministers of Communion should be familiar with the local arrangements of the Communion Rite and should be present for the entire celebration of the Mass. Some ministers of Communion bring Communion from the Sunday Eucharist to those who are sick. In doing so, they provide a valuable service to the Church, uniting the sick to the assembly and its feast, and embodying the community’s care and affection for all its members. Important to remember, however, this liturgical ministry is “Extraordinary”. If enough ordinary ministers are present, extraordinary ministers of Communion should not exercise their appointment, even if they were scheduled.
