Nota Bene: February 25, 2024

by Feb 23, 2024Nota Bene

Our readings today are a powerful testimony to God’s profound love for each one of us. This is an important message that is conveyed during this holy season of Lent as we partake in the suffering, death, and resurrection of God’s only Son. It is also a reminder for us, as Christian stewards, to surrender all that we have to the Gracious Giver.

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), formerly known as RCIA. Welcome to our three catechumens this weekend who will be received into the Catholic Church at Easter. A sign that parishes grow is the witness of adult baptisms! Let’s continue to pray for Yun (and her daughter), and Sam, along with their families. This Sunday we welcome them for the Rite of Acceptance, an ancient Rite that recognizes the catechumen’s decision to begin the process of becoming a member of the Catholic Church through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. This will take place at the 10:30am Mass at the Basilica. For more information on becoming Catholic, please contact Fr. Blake.

PASTOR’S MONTHLY PRAYER INTENTION:  During this month of February, the month in which the Church celebrates the World Day of the Sick, that the terminally ill “will always receive the necessary medical and human care and assistance.”, and for families caring for loved ones through illness, loneliness, and old age, may relationships be nurtured, and that leaning on others to share their burden is made more possible, let us pray to the Lord.

We live in a time of great change and instability, from the global scale of nations and societies down to the most personal level of lives – our parishes, communities, families. Finding and maintaining inner peace in uncertain times requires us to go deeper in faith with the Lord whose providence holds the whole world in His love. Come join Fr Denis Lemieux this Lent to journey with Christ into the deep waters of faith and hope He calls us to persevere in the Church’s mission of compassionate love and service in our troubled world.
Fr Denis Lemieux is a native son of St Finnan’s Basilica, growing up in Alexandria and having deep family roots in the area. He has been a member of the Madonna House community since 1991 and a priest since 2004. He is the author of several books and has preached parish missions and retreats across North America. He currently resides at the Madonna House in Salem Missouri.
