Pastor’s Blog – Stand Up

We celebrate Advent each year in preparation for the birth of Jesus, His first coming, as we await His second coming.  What will you do differently this Advent season to grow in friendship and love with Jesus?  How will you inspire others to do the same?  Start by sharing your God story with others, especially those closest to you.

New Office Hours!

Fr. Jonathan has new office hours! Please call the parish office, or use this link, to make an appointment with Fr. Jon.

CWL at St. Finnan

St. Finnan’s CWL is deeply, sincerely grateful for your generous response to our November “In Lieu of Bake Sale Collection”. We have received over $1,700 in donations from members and parishioners. THANK YOU so much! We will use the funds wisely in service to the parish and community. We appreciate your financial support. Be assured of our prayers.

Thank you, too, for your donations of Jell-O this month. Parishes across Glengarry have joined St. Finnan’s in contributing boxes of the desert, which will be donated to the diocesan Christmas Food Basket campaign.

St. Finnan’s CWL Executive Committee invites all League members to join them for a Mass and Christmas gathering at the Basilica on Wednesday, December 8th. Our Spiritual Advisor Fr. Jonathan Blake will celebrate Mass at 3:00p.m. A short program will follow, until about 4:30. If you wish, bring along a pair of Thinsulate mittens or gloves (any size), which we will donate to the children at St. Finnan’s School. We’d love to see you! Please join us.

CWL

The Diocesan CWL Advent Retreat hosted at St. Andrew’s Church is slated for Thursday, December 9th, 2021. The Rosary at 6p.m. will be followed by Mass at 6:30. The guest speaker for the evening will be Fr. Steven Gaudet. All members are welcome. There is no admission, but Covid restrictions require advance registration. If you plan to attend the Diocesan Retreat at St. Andrew’s, please contact Inez at inez1989@hotmail.com or 613-347-7666 by December 3rd.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus will be collecting donations on December 12 for the needy in our community. Donations will be collected via special Knights of Columbus envelopes left in the pews on the weekend of December 12. Donations will be given to St. Vincent de Paul in Alexandria.

Please put your envelope number on the Knights of Columbus envelope if you wish to receive a tax receipt for your donations. We are grateful to our parishioners for helping the needy in our community.

Coming up!

Starting in January 2022, we’ll be hosting our next BOOK STUDY! This round we’ll be studying the book Life is Messy!

“Can someone who has been devastatingly broken, be healed, and become more beautiful and more lovable than ever before?  Life is messy. It isn’t a colour-within-the-lines exercise. It’s a wild and outrageous invitation full of uncertain outcomes. The mess of life is both inevitable and unexpected. It is filled with delightful mysteries and frustrating predicaments.”

More details will follow. Please consider joining us!
