What is this? A new teaching with authority.
MK 1:21-28
Happy 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time! Our Lord this week invites us once again to have an undivided heart. God in Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (Jn 14:1-6). He walks with us on our journey. He teaches His Truth. He gives us His life in the Sacraments of the Church. Again, today we see His role as teacher in our lives, and the people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. What does this new teaching with authority mean for us, our families, our parishes? Jesus taught “with authority”, that is, he was the author of what he said. And, His teaching had authority in a further sense: it made things happen.
It is beautiful to see how God works in our lives! This week I was witness to the grace working through Exodus 90, ALPHA Online (still one more week to register), and Deacon Steven Gaudet who is settling in nicely for his final year of seminary. I also started writing in the Glengarry News, on finding God in all things! Stay tuned for more, and in the next two weeks on the upcoming Superbowl, and the theology of sports!
Allowing God to the centre of our hearts, means letting his authority affect all of our lives. Seeing Deacon Steven preparing for ordination to the priesthood this year reminds us all of our promise of obedience – not only to the archbishop in particular for religious, but to God for all of us! God is inviting us to have an undivided heart, realizing that His teaching is none like any other – it is indeed a teaching with authority. Have a great week! God bless. Peace.
