But Who do You Say That I Am?

Jesus said to them “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Matthew 16:13-19

In December 2021 we began speaking about the Synod process. It is a journey, a pilgrimage of listening to each other about our experience of the ups and downs, joys and sorrows of being Church together.

We are now ready to form small groups and begin the official process, and we would like for you to join us. I’ve mentioned this with others before, but our goal is not a report for the diocese, but rather an invitation to know ourselves better and to understand our next steps as part of the Glengarry parishes. What is the next sign post on our pilgrimage together? You may not want to participate, but what you say could help others understand our mission better. Where should we go as a parish?

How can we, the faithful and our Christian communities, be more open to evangelization? In the next couple of weeks, we’ll be having different dates and options for you to share in-person. These questions could help our conversations. I know not everyone will have time to meet in-person. I invite you to share your comments online – anonymously or signed – which will be shared with our Pastoral & Finance Councils, as well as with His Grace Archbishop Damphouse, Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall. Let’s continue praying for one another.

Peace,

Fr. Jonathan

P.S. Our survey should take about 10 to 15 minutes. Here are some questions to ponder as you prepare your answers:

  • How can we, the faithful and our Christian communities, better respond to the universal call to holiness through a greater love for God and for one another?
  • How can the priests, deacons, religious and all the faithful be mobilized to evangelize?
  • What are your dreams, hopes and vision for the future of St. Finnan’s Basilica, and our North Glengarry Parishes?
  • How can we continue this consultation and dialogue after the Synod?
